Planetary Symbols

The world of astrology connects the positions and orientations of celestial bodies with human personality, destiny and events. People are very familiar with the traditional astrology signs, which include, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pieces, but people are less aware of the planetary connections that these symbols have. Astrologists declare that each sign has a planetary ruler and but more importantly, each planet has its own specific energy that creates a connection with human behavior.

Mercury

The first planet in our solar system is Mercury, and the small planet is considered to be ruler of the Gemini sign. Mercury is thought of to be highly connected to the senses; the planet represents thinking, speaking learning, communication, the brain and the nervous system. Mercury represents the section of self that processes and perceives the world.

Venus

Venus is the ruler planet of the Taurus and is said to have a strong connection with an individual’s desire to find love. In a more detailed sense, Venus represents a person’s taste; whether it is aesthetically, color wise, shapes, things, or relationships. The dangers of not connecting with Venus are a loss of serenity and security, along with a tendency to become overly self-indulgent.

Mars

Mars, the planetary ruler of Aries has a strong connection with power and will. Mars has a strong connection with a person’s initiative, courage, ambition and energy. Using the power of Mars can be very constructive and lead to the reaching of goals, but a misuse can result in resentment, anger, impatience and an unsettling sense of urgency.

Jupiter

The planetary ruler of Sagittarius is Jupiter and at its most basic foundation, Jupiter represents faith. Jupiter represents some of the most pure of human emotions and connects with a person’s need to expand and burst with positive emotion. Feelings such as joy, opportunity, love of freedom and generosity are all intertwined with Jupiter. By improperly using Jupiter’s presence, one can become over-confidence, unrealistic, lazy or unable to focus their energies.

Saturn

Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, is has a more subtle presence; it is responsible for controlling one’s energy and shaping it into something constructive. Saturn connects with structure, such as government and business. Saturn represents focus, discipline and precise action, but in a more abstract sense it relates to the wisdom that is bestowed with experience. The dangers of improperly connecting with Saturn include bitterness, doubt, depression, despair and a general frustration with lack of progress.

Uranus, Neptune and Pluto

The final three planets in the solar system do not follow the same principles of the other planets. While other planets connect with specific types of human consciousness, these three planets are noted to transcend traditional limits of logic and consciousness. Uranus, the planetary ruler of Aquarius, for example, represents one’s ability to overcome the rigid structure of Saturn. Uranus channels the human ability to re-invent themselves and their reality. A misuse of Uranus can result in anxiety, tension and feelings of rebellion. Neptune, the planetary ruler of Pisces, connects to meditation and creativity. Without embracing this planetary influence, one can find themselves victim to patterns of self-destruction. Pluto, ruler of Scorpio, connects a person with serious issues, such as death, shame, sexuality and disease. Without facing these emotions directly, one cannot embrace Pluto’s influence. Insufficient use of this planetary power will result in increased fears, paranoia and despair.
